William Ross Appeals to Ulster Unionists
TUV Party President and former Ulster Unionist MP, William Ross, commenting on the turmoil in the UUP, has urged disillusioned Ulster Unionists to support Traditional Unionist Voice as the only unionist party now capable of offering a meaningful alternative to the DUP.
In a statement Mr Ross said:-
“It is becoming increasingly clear that many life-long Ulster Unionists – like I was - are in despair at the parlous state and direction of their Party. With a DUP that dishonestly stole David Trimble’s clothes to operate joint rule with Sinn Fein, and being a party mired in disturbing allegations about land deals and excessive expenses claims, the choice for concerned Unionists is narrowing.
“It is in these circumstances that I say to disappointed and disillusioned Ulster Unionists there is an alternative to an Ulster Unionist Party intent on self-inflicted destruction and to a DUP that many cannot trust. That alternative is TUV. I saw that some time ago and made that transition. It was not a matter of changing my principles, but the necessity of finding a new home for their expression, once the UUP gave up on traditional unionism.
“So, with the UUP in turmoil and the DUP not an option for many principled unionists and voters, I say now is the time to stick with your principles by supporting the only party, and only alternative, where those principles are still respected, Traditional Unionist Voice.”
