Commenting on the news that Ulster Unionist Trevor Ringland has suggested that he would support the ending of the playing of the National Anthem for Northern Ireland football games, TUV East Belfast Westminster candidate David Vance said:

“I believe that many soccer fans in East Belfast will be disappointed to hear that Mr Ringland seeks to see the demise of our National Anthem. What is the problem here? Is it now embarrassing for some unionists to hear our National Anthem played at Windsor Park? I fully support the use of the National Anthem for Northern Ireland soccer games and hope it continues for a long time to come.”
