TUV Announces Strangford Candidate
Councillor Terry Williams of Ards Council will be the TUV candidate in the General Election in Strangford.
Cllr Williams who lives in Newtownards and has served Ards East since 2001 is a recently retired senior social worker with a deep interest in the socio-economic needs of ordinary people. Terry has recently been appointed one of the council’s disability champions, recognition of his interest in the needs of disabled people. Recently, he championed the opposition of local residents to Ken Campbell’s proposed development in the Beverley area of Newtownards.
Cllr Williams said:
“I am not only honoured to be the TUV candidate but determined that in this wide open race the voice of Traditional Unionism will be heard loud and clear. Many in this constituency feel badly let down, both by the DUP somersault in elevating Sinn Fein to the highest offices in the land and latterly by their roll-over at Hillsborough, but also let down by the scandals over expenses and unexplained links with developers.
“Trust needs to be restored. As a grassroots representative, claiming no airs or graces, but with a deep love of my country and for the well-being of the people of Strangford, I believe I can give them the solid, dependable representation they need and desire. Stability, consistency and vigour are what I will bring to my home town and the wider hinterland. I know the issues in Strangford. I need no crash course or introduction to public life and serving the people.
“I look forward to carrying the TUV message of principled Unionism to every corner of Strangford. As the only Unionist candidate opposed to terrorists in government and untainted by the shambles at Stormont, I believe our distinctive message will resonate well from Portavogie to Ballynahinch, from Saintfield to Ballywalter.”
Commenting on the selection of Terry Williams, TUV Leader Jim Allister QC said:-
“Strangford has passed through traumatic political times. Scandal has taken its toil, leaving many disillusioned and looking for reliability, not glitz, stability, not levity in their public representatives. Terry Williams has exactly the steady strength which Strangford needs at this time. A man who cares for people, who can be relied on to conduct himself with maturity and decorum. He will not let Strangford down.”
