Statement by TUV Newry and Armagh Assembly candidate Barrie Halliday:

“In 2005 the DUP promised the Unionist people “verifiable, transparent and complete decommissioning, photographed and witnessed”. Today, less than 48 hours before Ulster goes to the polls again, we have a telling reminder that this did not happen.

“The discovery of semtex during police searches in South Armagh reminds us that supposedly decommissioned IRA material is still very much in active service.

“The PSNI are to be congratulated for uncovering this stash of deadly weaponry but it also highlights the threat posed by terrorists in South Armagh and the need for the security forces to clamp down on the same without fear or favour.”
