Rosslea Follow-up Enquiries Disappointing

Statement by TUV Fermanagh and South Tyrone Assembly candidate Alex Elliott:

“I was somewhat disappointed with the follow-up enquiries carried out by the Police officers in ‘F’ District as a consequence of the suspect device left at Dresternan, Rosslea. The follow up appeal for information consisted of a middle of the night letter-drop to residents in the immediate vicinity of the suspect device with no face to face contact or enquiries. One resident from Rosslea phoned me to say, “It doesn’t instil much confidence in us that police will provide security and policing to us out here with their middle of the night letter-drop”.

Mr Elliott, who served as a police officer in Rosslea in the 1980s, added:

“I appreciate that the is a certain degree of risk in patrolling areas where hostile elements operate; but this was an opportunity for Police Command in Fermanagh to place officers on to the ground where they could liaise directly with members of the Rosslea community and provide a degree of reassurance to them. It was an opportunity missed”.
