Commenting on last night’s vote by Limavady council to keep an Irish language logo on staff uniforms Jim Allister said:

“Sinn Fein/IRA frequently make a song and dance about what they term “equality”. Last night’s refusal a Republican dominated council to alter their divisive policy of Irish language logos on staff uniforms exposed this as empty rhetoric. It is clear that only symbols associated with nationalism and Irishness are acceptable in Limavady.

“Don’t forget that this was the same council on which has seen moves in recent days to remove so-called offensive items like a Charles and Dianna mug and a monument to Limavady native William Massey Ferguson, who went on to become Prime Minister of New Zealand, because he was an Orangeman.

“There is clearly an orchestrated campaign not just to remove symbols which have any Unionist connotations whatsoever but to replace them with symbols which are offensive to the Protestant and Unionist community.”
